Frequently Asked Questions & Contact Us
How do I contact you if I have a question about the free service, or if I want to inquire about more elaborate websites?
What goes into having a website?
A website is built from three components: design and setup (which we provide free), a domain name, and a web host, meaning a business that runs a computer 24x7 to send the web pages out on demand. We give you guidance for a quick process that gets your domain and your hosting.
What does Konvenient.com offer?
We offer an extremely easy and convenient way for you to get your website set up and to easily update it at any time, without needing to pay a webmaster or wait for a webmaster's schedule.
How do I update my website?
Just click the "Webmaster Control Panel" link at the bottom of any page on your site. Enter your password, and merely fill in the blanks with updated information. (See how it looks on the demo.) If you forget your password, just click the "Email my password" link at the bottom of each page, and an email will be sent to you and you alone.
I've seen another site offering free websites. Why should I choose Konvenient.com?
Shop carefully and compare features.
- Some free websites contain a significant amount of advertising. Konvenient sites contain just a small link to Konvenient and, if the template came from another source, a link to the template creator.
- Some free websites are set up by companies who then own the domain name you pick, or make it difficult to move to a new web host (or you don't even get your own domain name, but are stuck with just a directory name). When you have a Konvenient site, YOU are the domain owner with the total right to change, move, or sell your website at any time.
What are these widgets or gadgets? (Clock, calendars, etc)
These are free web inserts that our templates make super-easy to use. Just find a gadget you like, copy the provided code, and paste it into the widget block on your control panel, and it's live on your site. Gadgets and widgets are free from places like Google Gadgets and Widgetbox.com.
Why do I need to provide my web host account information?
So that we can transfer web pages to your website we need to know to set up your actual domain hosting account to permit the transfer of those files, and it confirms that you have gone through the first of our four easy steps to getting your website (1. Pick a template, 2. sign up for hosting.) As soon as the website is set up, you are free to change that logon information.
How soon after I click the signup button will my website be ready?
The worst case is 24 hours, but often it can be within an hour or two. We strive to complete our part of the setup as quickly as possible, but sometimes there are delays as ISPs update the domain name servers, and that process is done with haste but is out of our control. The key thing is that we take all the guesswork and effort out of this process for you. As soon as your site is on the air, and the doman name servers have current information, your website will be continually online, and any changes you make will be visible instantly. (You might have to hit "refresh" on your browser to see the new content.)
I don't see a template I like. Will you have more in the future?
Yes, we will.
The four-page site doesn't exactly fit my personal needs. What if I'd like a site with addiitonal pages or different pages?
We would be happy to discuss your exact needs and propose a solution.
I would like to be able to format some of my text. Can I do that?
Yes. We've tried to make things as simple as possible, but we do nothing to prevent you from doing even more than the control panel offers by itself. The key is to insert simple hmtl tags in the text you edit. For instance you can enter this: the last word in this sentence is <i>italicized</i>. See this page for a quick summary of simple html. Using this additional power is not required, but it's available if you want to take advantage of it.
I've noticed that on a few templates, the sidebar or other elements show rounded corners when viewed in Firefox or Safari, but shows square corners in Internet Explorer. Why is that?
Microsoft is running significantly behind most other web browsers in adhering to web standards. It's possible with convoluted work-arounds to make up for some of IE's remaining deficiencies such as this, but we have opted for a longer-range solution. Future releases of IE are likely to finally catch up with the rest of the world, so we've used faster, cleaner, standard solutions to issues such as rounded corners. For now, we recommend you use what we feel is the best browser available in terms of speed, ease of use, features, and adherence to standards: Firefox.
Can I change from one template to another after I've established my website?
Yes, we can accommodate that quickly for a very modest fee.
How can all this be free?
We offer the prepared templates and the Konvenient control panel at no cost, and get your website online at no cost because we're still in our Internet expansion phase where increased exposure outweighs short-term income. We also offer paid services, including converting your existing website to this super-easy way of updating your site, and we offer extensive website design and development services, from very simple sites to Drupal content management systems. We hope you will be so pleased with the appearance and ease of updating your website that if your needs change in the future, you will think of us.
Can other programs or features be installed?
Yes. The website you receive is an industry standard Linux/PHP/MySQL website capable of supporting other PHP applications and database applications. You have the power to install applications yourself, or arrange for Konvenient to do so. As just one example, see the Konvenient sample calendar page.
How dependent on Konvenient.com if I want to change my website or get a webmaster?
Not at all. Your domain is owned by you and registered in your name. Your hosting account is yours and registered in your name. You have total freedom to do anything you want to your website (subject to legal restrictions the hosting company levies on all customers.)
